Chapter 7: Shattering the Illusion

Alonso lunged forward, grabbing the polished edge of the dresser with both hands. "You ruined us! You freezing those accounts destroyed six generations of family heritage! Do you have any idea who we are?"

Renata finally turned to face him. The cold, unblinking clarity in her eyes made Alonso step back involuntarily, as if struck by a physical force.

"Mom was just joking—"

"Quiet, Alonso," she interrupted, her tone sharp enough to draw blood. "Your mother spent six years convincing me I was nothing. But while she was busy looking down her nose at my neighborhood, I was looking at your balance sheets. Every signature you forged. Every bribe you paid. I documented it all."

Alonso's knees buckled slightly, the weight of his reality crashing down. "You... you planned all of this?"

"I survived," Renata corrected him coldly. "You provided the rope. I simply tied the knot."
