Chapter 19 - Judgment DayCharles backed up against the stairs of the Gulfstream, his silver revolver pressed hard against Eleanor's temple. Sweat mixed with rain poured down his face, his eyes wide and wild like a madman’s.

"It’s over, Charles," Adrian said, walking forward with measured, unhurried steps. He held his weapon low at his side. "Look around you. Your security is gone. Your money is gone. Your plane isn't flying."
"I have the keys!" Charles shrieked, waving the leather briefcase wildy with his free hand. "I have billions! We can make a deal, Adrian! Half! I'll give you half of everything! Just let me step on this plane!"
"You offered my father a deal," Scott said, limping up beside Adrian, his gray eyes locking onto Charles. "You offered my wife a deal. You offered my son a life on the streets."
"I gave you life!" Charles yelled at Scott. "I spared you!"
"You locked him in a basement for eight years," Adrian said, his voice dropping to a icy whisper that chilled Charles to his bone. "You didn't spare him. You were too cowardly to finish the job yourself."
Eleanor looked at Charles, her eyes filled with utter disgust. "Do it, Adrian," she whispered softly. "Don't let him bargain."
Charles’s finger twitched on the trigger. "Shut up, you old bitch—"
BANG!
A single sniper round from the catwalk above struck the revolver in Charles's hand. The gun exploded into fragments of metal and plastic, shattering Charles's hand and knocking him off balance.
Eleanor broke free, stumbling forward. Scott caught his mother in a tight embrace, pulling her safely away from the staircase.
Charles howled in agony, clutching his ruined hand, falling onto his knees on the wet tarmac. The leather briefcase clattered to the ground, popping open to scatter useless paper documents and encrypted hard drives into the puddles.
Adrian walked up to Charles. He didn't draw his gun. He simply stood over the broken billionaire, looking down at him with quiet, absolute contempt.
"Please..." Charles wheezed, tears mixing with the blood on his face as he looked up at the stepson he had tried to destroy. "Adrian... please... I'm your father..."
"My father died in the line of honor," Adrian said softly. "You're just a thief in an expensive suit."
Adrian raised his fist and struck Charles once, cleanly across the jaw. Charles went limp, collapsing face-first into the dirty rainwater surrounding his stolen wealth.
Outside the hangar, red and blue lights illuminated the rain as dozens of federal vehicles, state police cruisers, and armored FBI transport vans screeched onto the tarmac. SWAT officers poured out, rifles raised, securing the perimeter.
An FBI Special Agent in Charge stepped into the hangar, looking at the unconscious Charles, the knocked-out Vanguard mercenaries, and the Whitmore family standing together in the center of the room.
"Adrian Whitmore?" the agent asked, lowering his sidearm. "We received the master digital dossier from an encrypted server ten minutes ago. Every offshore transaction, every murder contract, every human trafficking route linked to Charles Whitmore and the Blackwood Consortium."

Adrian looked at Scott, who held his laptop with a faint, satisfied smile.
"It’s all verified, Agent," Adrian said, wrapping his arm around his mother and brother. "Take him away."
