Chapter 3 - The Shadow Ally

The bright sun slowly set over the sprawling, beautiful metropolis, casting long, dramatic shadows directly across Elena’s massive new corner office.
She stood quietly by the towering floor-to-ceiling windows, looking down like a goddess at the busy city she now effectively controlled.
A soft, hesitant knock on the frosted glass of her office door gently broke her intense concentration.
"Come in," she said.
The heavy door clicked open, and a incredibly tall, sharp-featured man stepped carefully into the dimly lit room.
Julian Vance was the brilliant chief financial officer and arguably the only person in the entire massive building whom Elena actually trusted with her life.
He had been secretly, and very dangerously, feeding her vital insider information during her long years in hiding.
"The forced resignations have all been fully processed, and Victoria’s personal assets are now completely frozen across all global banks," Julian reported.
He walked smoothly over to a beautiful crystal decanter sitting on a side table and poured two generous glasses of incredibly expensive, aged bourbon.
"She is currently throwing a massive, destructive tantrum at a cheap downtown motel," he added with a slight, knowing smirk.
Elena gratefully accepted the heavy glass he offered her.
"She will definitely not stay quiet or defeated for very long," Elena noted.
"Victoria has always had very dangerous, desperate friends operating deep in the underground credit markets," she explained.
Julian took a slow, appreciative sip of his burning drink.
"We have already anticipated that exact move," he assured her.
"I personally bought out the bad debt of her three biggest underworld supporters earlier this afternoon," Julian revealed.
Elena finally turned fully to look at him, genuine appreciation and respect shining brightly in her dark eyes.
"You work incredibly fast, Julian," she complimented.
"I only learned how to move this efficiently from the absolute best, Chairman," he replied smoothly.
Their powerful alliance was heavily forged in absolute secrecy, built entirely on a mutual, shared desire to permanently purge the deep corruption from the Sinclair Empire.
"Tomorrow night is the massive annual corporate charity gala," Elena reminded him.
"It will officially be my first highly publicized public appearance as the new head of this complicated family," she said.
Julian nodded slowly, his handsome expression quickly growing incredibly serious and protective.
"Our private security detail will absolutely need to be quadrupled for the evening," he advised.
"Victoria is incredibly desperate right now, and deeply desperate people always make incredibly foolish, violent mistakes," he warned.
Elena took a long sip of the harsh, burning liquid.

"Let her try to come for me," Elena whispered.
"I truly want the entire watching world to see exactly what happens when a parasite tries to cross the main Sinclair bloodline," she concluded.
