CHAPTER 11: THE NIGHT CHASE

CHAPTER 11: THE NIGHT CHASE

At 9:43 p.m., an alert flashed across the operations center.

One of the names from the recovered list had just used a toll pass on Interstate 90.

Marcus grabbed his jacket.

"Move."

Within minutes, unmarked police vehicles quietly entered traffic.

Officer Rachel Donovan tracked the suspect's sedan from a safe distance.

"No lights," Marcus instructed.

"Let's see where he's going."

The silver sedan exited downtown and headed toward Boston Harbor.

Instead of stopping at a warehouse, it entered an abandoned shipping terminal.

The vehicle parked beside an old cargo building.

Marcus watched through binoculars.

Two people stepped out.

One carried a hard-shell briefcase.

The other constantly scanned the area.

"Wait for backup," Rachel whispered.

Before Marcus could answer, one of the suspects looked directly toward their position.

"He spotted us."

The sedan's engine exploded to life.

It accelerated through the terminal.

"Go!"

Police vehicles surged forward.

The chase wound through narrow industrial roads lined with shipping containers.

The fleeing driver swerved around heavy trucks with astonishing precision.

Rachel remained only seconds behind.

Ahead, the suspect attempted a sharp turn.

His tires lost traction.

The sedan spun sideways before striking a steel barrier.

Airbags deployed instantly.

Officers surrounded the vehicle.

"Hands where we can see them!"

The driver surrendered without resistance.

The passenger seat, however...

...was empty.

Marcus frowned.

"He was there."

Rachel searched the area with her flashlight.

Fresh footprints disappeared between rows of stacked containers.

Someone had escaped during the crash.

Nearby, officers recovered the briefcase.

Inside were financial ledgers.

International account numbers.

And another encrypted storage device.

Marcus looked toward the dark harbor.

"This isn't over."
