CHAPTER 2: EVERY CAMERA TELLS A STORY
Blue and red emergency lights reflected across the restaurant's front windows.
Within minutes, Boston police officers entered calmly but decisively.
The dining room remained silent.
No customer had left.
Everyone had stayed.
Officer Rachel Donovan approached Elena first.
"Are you the caller?"
"Yes."
She nodded toward Maya.
"My daughter needs medical attention."
Paramedics entered moments later while another officer separated everyone involved.
David folded his arms.
"This has been completely exaggerated," he insisted.
"It was a family disagreement."
Officer Donovan didn't respond.
Instead, she turned toward the restaurant manager.
"Do you have surveillance?"
The manager nodded immediately.
"We have twenty-eight security cameras."
David's expression changed.
"They record audio?" he asked too quickly.
"No."
He exhaled.
But only briefly.
The manager continued.
"They recorded every movement."
Another employee approached carrying a digital storage drive.
"We've already backed up the footage."
The officer accepted it carefully.
"Thank you."
Across the dining room, a young waitress quietly raised her hand.
"I saw everything."
Another customer spoke.
"So did I."
Then another.
"And I recorded part of it."
Within two minutes, six separate witnesses volunteered statements.
David realized the story was no longer his to control.
Meanwhile, paramedic Luis Hernandez gently examined Maya.
He frowned.
"There are bruises in different stages of healing."
His eyes met Elena's.
"Has this happened before?"
Maya looked away.
May you like
She didn't answer.
That silence spoke louder than words.
