I stood in the Vanguard operations center, watching the drone footage of the ambush. I was done being the victim. I was done playing defense. The two hundred lashes had burned away the naive girl I used to be; what was left was forged in iron.
"Trace the mercenaries," I ordered, my voice steady. My father looked at me, a glimmer of pride in his cold eyes.
"They were hired through a dark-web broker operating out of Geneva," a Vanguard analyst reported. "Funded by the Chechen wallet."

"Then we go to Geneva," I said. "Nathan thinks he can reach out from behind bars and touch me. I want to cut off his hands."
My father nodded. "Pack your bags. We leave in an hour."
