Chapter 2: The Champagne Sociopath

Chapter 2: The Champagne Sociopath

From the periphery of my blurred vision, I saw her. Celeste. She sat nestled deep within the plush cushions of a white leather armchair, one long leg crossed over the other, perfectly at ease. The crystal flute of vintage champagne in her hand caught the dim light, throwing fractured rainbows across the room.

"That was only one hundred ninety-eight," Celeste stated, her voice as smooth and emotionless as glass. She took a delicate sip, her eyes lazily scanning my bleeding back. "You missed two, Nathan."

Nathan chuckled, a dark, vibrating sound in his throat. He looked at her with a sickening kind of adoration, then turned his dead eyes back to me. He raised his arm, the leather coiling like a viper in the air.

Crack.

One.

Crack.

May you like

Two.

"There," Nathan said, tossing the whip aside. It slapped against the marble, leaving a crimson smear. "Now you'll remember where you belong." He stepped closer, grabbing my jaw with an iron grip, forcing me to look up at his triumphant sneer. "Now, apologize to Celeste."
