Chapter 4: The Revelation

Chapter 4: The Revelation
Jasper stormed out of his office, his chest heaving. He dialed the personal cell phone of Richard Vance, the managing partner of Vanguard.
To his surprise, Vance answered on the first ring.
“Richard!” Jasper yelled, ignoring all pleasantries. “What the hell are you playing at? You’re tanking my company!”
“I am liquidating a liability,” Richard Vance’s voice was smooth, completely detached. “We no longer have an interest in Apex Solutions.”
“My algorithm is flawless! I am the next big thing in Silicon Valley!” Jasper screamed. “You’re making the biggest mistake of your career!”
A cold, dry chuckle echoed through the phone.
“Jasper, let me be very clear with you. We didn't invest in your algorithm. We didn't invest in your little startup. We invested because Finnley Robertson personally asked us to.”
The blood drained from Jasper’s face. He stumbled backward, hitting the edge of his assistant's desk.
“Finnley... Robertson? The CEO of Robertson Global?” Jasper stammered. “I don't even know him.”

“No,” Richard said softly. “But you know his daughter. And I understand you made her take a city bus home five days after a C-section. Mr. Robertson does not take kindly to people who disrespect his blood. You’re done, Jasper. In this city, in this industry. You are erased.”
The line went dead.
