Chapter 12 - The CourthouseThe courthouse was crowded.
Ethan, Hannah, Emma, Daniel, Claire, and Margaret entered through different doors.
They spotted the lawyer immediately.
He carried a black briefcase.
Ethan approached.
“Where are you going?”
The lawyer smiled.
“To protect my client.”
“You don't have a client.”
Victor's name was enough.
The lawyer stepped backward.
Security officers moved closer.
Claire whispered.
“He knows.”
The lawyer suddenly ran.
Ethan chased him.
They moved through the courthouse hallway.
The lawyer entered a stairwell.
Ethan followed.
The briefcase fell.
It opened.
Documents scattered across the steps.
Among them was the original trust.
Ethan grabbed it.
The lawyer stopped.
“You have no idea what you're doing.”
Ethan held the document.
“I know exactly what I'm doing.”
The lawyer laughed.
“Victor owns people more powerful than you.”
Ethan answered.
“Not anymore.”
Police officers entered.
The lawyer was arrested.
But he smiled.
“You think Victor will let this end?”
Ethan looked at him.
“He already lost.”
The lawyer shook his head.
“You haven't seen the last file.”
He looked toward Hannah.
“Ask her why she was chosen.”
Hannah froze.
“What?”
The lawyer smiled.
“You think you were just Lily's guardian?”
Hannah's expression changed.
The lawyer was taken away.
Everyone stared at Hannah.
Ethan asked.
“What did he mean?”
Hannah looked terrified.
“I don't know.”
Margaret suddenly spoke.
“Yes, you do.”
Hannah turned.
Margaret continued.
“Daniel chose you because you were the only person Victor couldn't buy.”
Hannah's eyes filled.
“But that's not all.”
Margaret looked at her.
“You were the one person Emma trusted.”
Emma nodded.
“I knew Hannah before Lily was born.”
Ethan looked confused.
“You knew each other?”
Emma smiled sadly.
“She saved my life.”
Hannah lowered her head.
