Chapter 14 - The Scales of Justice

The federal courthouse was a massive, imposing structure made of dark granite, symbolizing the absolute power of the law.

Emma sat in the front row of the crowded gallery, holding her head high as she watched the final act of the Sterling family's destruction unfold.

Chloe, Arthur, Eleanor, and Julian were led into the courtroom in handcuffs, wearing matching orange jumpsuits and heavy leg shackles.

The gallery was packed to the brim with eager journalists, former business partners, and curious onlookers hungry for the high-society scandal.

Judge Thomas Harrison, a stern and unforgiving man with a reputation for handing down maximum sentences, banged his wooden gavel to silence the noisy room.

"The defendants have pleaded guilty to all federal charges, including wire fraud, tax evasion, money laundering, and attempted murder," the judge boomed over the microphone.

He looked down at the ruined family with a terrifying expression of absolute disgust and contempt.

"Your wealth and privilege blinded you to basic human decency, and you believed the laws of this nation did not apply to your twisted empire," Judge Harrison stated firmly.

"Chloe Sterling, for the heinous and calculated attempted murder of a pregnant woman, I sentence you to twenty-five years in a maximum-security federal penitentiary."

Chloe immediately collapsed into a screaming, hysterical puddle on the courtroom floor, forcing two heavily armed bailiffs to drag her back to her feet.

"Arthur and Eleanor Sterling, for orchestrating a massive criminal enterprise and concealing federal assets, you are both sentenced to twenty years without the possibility of early parole," the judge continued mercilessly.

Eleanor fainted instantly, her frail body slumping silently against her stunned husband's shoulder.

"And finally, Julian Sterling, for your active complicity in covering up these violent crimes and benefiting from stolen funds, you are sentenced to ten years in federal prison."

Julian did not cry, nor did he fight; he simply stared at the blank wall, completely hollowed out and resigned to his miserable fate.

Before the court was dismissed, the judge turned his attention to the front row and offered Emma a subtle, respectful nod of admiration.

Emma stood up gracefully, pulling her tailored coat tightly around her shoulders as she prepared to walk out of the courthouse.

She did not look back at her former family as they were forcefully dragged away to their miserable, concrete cages.

Justice had been served cold, absolute, and completely devoid of mercy, exactly as the Sterling family deserved.
