Chapter 2 - A Glimmer of Hope

The next morning brought a pale sunlight through the hospital window.
David had slept in the uncomfortable chair beside her bed.
He woke up with a stiff neck but a hopeful heart.
The doctors had mentioned a new experimental treatment.
It was risky, but it was a chance they were willing to take.
Sarah opened her eyes and managed a weak smile.
"You look terrible," she teased him gently.
David chuckled, running a hand through his messy blonde hair.
"I feel terrible, but you look beautiful," he replied.
The nurse entered the room to check her vitals.
The numbers were stable, which was a small victory in itself.
They waited anxiously for the lead oncologist to arrive.
Every passing minute felt like an eternity.
Finally, Dr. Evans walked in with a thick folder.
