Chapter 6 - The Setback
A sudden fever spiked on the fifth day of the treatment.
The doctors rushed in, their faces grim with concern.
An infection had taken hold of her weakened immune system.
Sarah was transferred to the intensive care unit.
David was forced to wait outside, pacing the hallway in agony.
The fear of losing her was paralyzing.
He prayed to a God he hadn't spoken to in years.
Hours turned into days as her body fought the infection.
Strong antibiotics were pumped into her system continuously.
She was barely conscious, drifting in and out of reality.
When David was finally allowed to see her, she looked incredibly frail.
He held her limp hand, tears streaming down his face.
"Please don't leave me," he begged quietly.
Sarah's eyelids fluttered, but she couldn't speak.
