Chapter 4 - The First Treatment

The medication felt cold as it entered her bloodstream.

Sarah closed her eyes, trying to focus on her breathing.

David read to her from her favorite book to distract her.

His calm voice was a soothing balm to her frayed nerves.

Hours passed, and the infusion was finally complete.

She felt a wave of nausea wash over her almost immediately.

The nurses administered anti-nausea medication to help her cope.

Exhaustion hit her like a freight train, pulling her into a deep sleep.

When she woke up, it was already dark outside.

David was still there, illuminated only by the faint glow of the monitors.

"How do you feel?" he asked softly.

"Like I've been run over by a truck," she admitted.

He offered her some ice chips to soothe her dry throat.

The night was long and filled with discomfort.

But they made it through, one hour at a time.

The first battle of the new war was over.
