Chapter 1: The Confession

Tension hung heavy in the sterile air of the kitchen. Seraphina stared at her hands, the silence stretching until it felt like a physical weight on her chest.

"His name is Detective Marcus Harris," she whispered. The name tasted like ash. "He was my fiancé. When I tried to leave, he made sure no one would hire me. He froze my accounts. He promised if I went to the police, he’d kill my sister."

Ronan’s expression didn't change. The icy calm remained, but the temperature in the room seemed to drop ten degrees.

"And the bruises on your wrists?" he asked, his voice a low hum.

"A reminder," she choked out. "He found me last night outside the estate gates. He told me my time was up."

Ronan slowly stood. He didn't reach for her. He simply adjusted the cuffs of his tailored suit. "Ms. Hale. Go upstairs to the East Wing. The master guest suite is unlocked. You will sleep there tonight."

"Are no longer yours," Ronan interrupted softly. "No one touches what belongs in my house. And starting tonight, you are no longer a maid."
