Chapter 9: The Ambush
The attack happened on the drive back to the estate.
Two black SUVs rammed their armored sedan, spinning it off the wet mountain road. Gunfire shattered the bulletproof glass. Ronan drew his weapon, firing out the window, taking down two men instantly.
"Stay down!" Ronan roared.
But Seraphina didn't freeze. Her training kicked in. She kicked open her jammed door, rolling into the muddy ditch. An attacker rounded the rear of the car, aiming at Ronan's blind spot.

Seraphina didn't hesitate. She raised the Glock, exhaled, and squeezed the trigger. The man dropped.
Ronan eliminated the last two threats. He turned, breathing heavily, and saw Seraphina standing in the rain, gun raised, unblinking.
