Chapter 6 - THE PUBLIC DECLARATION

The flashbulbs of fifty different cameras illuminated the grand lobby of Caldwell Enterprises like a relentless lightning storm.
Reporters from every major news outlet in the country were practically climbing over each other to get a better angle.
Rumors had been swirling like a dark tornado since the abrupt cancellation of the social event of the decade.
The Sterling family had already leaked vicious, anonymous statements to the press, painting Ethan as an unstable man suffering from a sudden mental breakdown.
They assumed he would hide behind his army of corporate lawyers and PR executives to weather the storm.
They were completely wrong.
Ethan Caldwell walked up to the podium with the lethal grace of an apex predator defending its territory.
He wore a sharply tailored navy suit, but his tie was absent, signaling a man who was no longer playing by society's strict rules.
The murmurs in the crowded room instantly died down as he leaned forward and gripped the edges of the wooden podium.
He looked out at the sea of hungry journalists, his silver eyes completely devoid of fear or hesitation.
"Good morning," Ethan began, his deep voice carrying effortlessly through the state-of-the-art sound system.
"I called this press conference to address the ridiculous rumors surrounding my personal life and the cancellation of my wedding."
A reporter from the front row immediately shouted a question about Victoria Sterling's emotional state.
Ethan raised a single, commanding hand, and the room fell into absolute silence once again.
"Victoria Sterling and I are no longer engaged, and any future business ties between our two families have been permanently severed."
A collective gasp echoed through the room, as this move alone would cost both empires hundreds of millions of dollars.
"The decision was not mutual, and it was not a result of stress, as some cowardly sources have falsely claimed."
He paused, letting his words sink in heavily before delivering the fatal blow to the Sterling family's public image.
"I canceled the wedding because I discovered that my former fiancée physically assaulted a three-year-old child inside my home."
Pandemonium instantly erupted in the lobby.
Dozens of reporters screamed questions at the exact same time, waving their recording devices frantically in the air.
Ethan ignored the chaos, keeping his intense gaze locked on the main television camera at the back of the room.
"Furthermore, I want to formally announce that I have recently been reunited with my biological daughter, Lily."
The shouting in the room grew so deafening that the security guards had to step forward to hold back the press line.
"She, and her mother, Rosa, are under my absolute protection," Ethan continued, his voice slicing through the noise like a perfectly sharpened blade.
"If any tabloid, photographer, or angry former business partner attempts to harass them, I will personally destroy them."
He did not wait for more questions.
He simply stepped away from the podium, flanked by his massive security detail, and walked out of the building.

He had just set the corporate world entirely on fire.
And he had never felt more alive.
