Chapter 20 - Long Live the QueenSix months later.

The cathedral in the heart of Monterrey was completely cordoned off. Two hundred armed guards secured the perimeter, ensuring not a single uninvited guest stepped foot within a three-block radius.
Inside, the grand sanctuary was filled with thousands of white roses. The heavy scent of incense and expensive perfume hung in the air. The elite of northern Mexico—politicians, business magnates, and cartel bosses who had quickly fallen in line—sat in the wooden pews, waiting in absolute silence.
The massive wooden doors at the back of the cathedral slowly opened.
Valeria stood there, a vision of absolute power and breathtaking beauty. Her custom-made, long-sleeved lace gown trailed flawlessly behind her. A delicate diamond tiara rested in her dark hair, sparkling in the candlelight.
She didn't walk down the aisle on the arm of a nervous father. She walked on her own, her head held high, commanding the room with a terrifying, magnetic grace.
Waiting for her at the altar was Alejandro.
He wore a bespoke black tuxedo that fit his massive frame perfectly. The dangerous, lethal aura that usually surrounded the cartel boss was still there, but as he looked at Valeria walking toward him, his dark eyes softened into something profoundly vulnerable.
Standing right beside him, wearing a tiny, perfectly tailored tuxedo of his own, was Mateo.
The five-year-old boy held a small velvet pillow. On it rested two heavy gold bands. He beamed with absolute joy as Valeria approached.
When Valeria reached the altar, Alejandro reached out and took her hands. His thumbs gently brushed over her knuckles.
"You are breathtaking," he murmured, his deep voice carrying only to her ears.
"You don't look so bad yourself, El Patrón," she smiled back, her eyes shining with unshed tears of happiness.
The priest began the ceremony. The words flowed over them, a sacred vow sealing a bond that had been forged in blood, survival, and absolute loyalty.
When it was time for the rings, Mateo stepped forward. Valeria knelt down slightly, letting Alejandro slide the heavy gold band onto her finger. She took the second ring and slid it onto Alejandro’s.
Then, in a break from tradition, Valeria reached into the folds of her dress and pulled out a small, delicate silver chain with a heavy gold medallion. She placed it around Mateo’s neck.
"For you, my brave boy," she whispered, kissing his forehead. "Because we are a family. Forever."
Mateo threw his arms around her neck, burying his face in her shoulder. "I love you, Mom," he whispered.
The entire cathedral seemed to hold its breath. It was the first time he had ever called her that.
Alejandro’s chest heaved. He wrapped his massive arms around both of them, pulling them into a tight, unbreakable embrace. The cartel boss, the king of the north, bowed his head to the only two people on earth who possessed his heart.
"I now pronounce you husband and wife," the priest declared. "You may kiss the bride."
Alejandro stood up, pulling Valeria flush against his chest. He didn't kiss her gently. He kissed her with the fierce, possessive passion of a man who had conquered the world just to lay it at her feet.
The cathedral erupted into applause.
As they turned to walk back down the aisle, Alejandro tucked Valeria’s hand into the crook of his arm. Mateo held her other hand, swinging it happily as they walked.
The Cartel de las Sombras was destroyed. The traitors were buried. The Ríos empire was stronger, wealthier, and more terrifying than it had ever been.
But as Valeria stepped out of the cathedral and into the blinding Mexican sun, looking out over the private army that bowed their heads as she passed, she knew the truth.
Alejandro was the muscle. He was the fear.
But she was the heart. She was the one who had walked into the darkness and tamed the monsters.
