I didn’t wait in the back. I didn't hide in the shadows. I walked straight down the center aisle, directly behind the bride.

My pitch-black trench coat cut a stark, violent contrast against the sea of pristine white floral arrangements lining the pews. The sharp clicking of my stiletto heels echoed fiercely over the organ music, creating a jarring, off-beat rhythm. Whispers began to ripple through the pews like a wildfire. Heads turned. Gasps echoed in the high vaulted ceiling. I saw the mayor whisper to his wife; I saw tech investors exchange bewildered looks.

Brooke felt the dramatic shift in the room's energy. She paused, looking over her shoulder. Her smug, glowing smile vanished instantly, replaced by a mask of pale, breathless horror.

Dominic’s eyes tracked the commotion and locked onto me from the altar. His handsome face twisted into a mask of pure, unadulterated rage. He abandoned his bride, storming down the carpeted altar steps and marching toward me.

“What the hell are you doing here?” he hissed, his face red, keeping his voice low to avoid the microphones set up for the livestream, but his hands were balled into white-knuckled fists. “Get out of here before I have you arrested and thrown in a cell for trespassing.”
