Chapter 10: Desperate Measures

Marcus holstered his weapon and sprinted to the edge of the pool. He dropped to his knees and pounded his fists against the heavy PVC cover. It felt like punching concrete. The material was pulled incredibly taut by the hydraulic mechanisms, designed specifically to withstand immense blunt force.

He drew his combat knife from his tactical vest—a serrated, carbon-steel blade capable of cutting through seatbelts and light metal. He plunged it into the pool cover. The blade sparked against interwoven Kevlar threading. Victor hadn’t just used a standard cover; he had installed a military-grade security barrier. The knife barely made a scratch.

Marcus looked around the pool house. He needed something heavier. He needed a way to break the hydraulic lock at the far end of the track. His eyes landed on a massive, bronze statue of the Greek god Poseidon standing decoratively near the showers. It had to weigh over three hundred pounds.
