Chapter 6: The Eclipse
The water reached Elena’s chin. She had to stand perfectly on her tiptoes, her calf muscles screaming in agony, just to keep her nose above the rising surface. The chain pulling at her ankle was relentless, a heavy iron anchor dragging her down to an abyssal grave.
Above her, the pool cover was inches away from closing completely. The harsh halogen lights of the room were reduced to a tiny, narrowing sliver of white.
Through that shrinking gap, she saw Victor. He had pulled up a leather lounge chair and was sitting at the edge of the pool, crossing his legs, a crystal glass of bourbon in his hand. He was watching her drown with the casual interest of a man watching a television show.

"Don't fight it, Elena," Victor’s voice echoed down into the dark chamber, distorted by the closing gap. "Inhale deeply. It will be over much faster if you just let it happen."
The cover slammed shut with a sickening thud, and the automatic locks engaged. Elena was plunged into absolute, suffocating darkness.
