Chapter 7: The Breach
Marcus threw his shoulder against the oak doors of the pool house. They held firm. He backed up, aimed his weapon at the reinforced deadbolt, and emptied half his magazine into the metal housing. Wood splintered and steel sheared. He kicked the doors open, bursting into the humid, chlorine-scented air.
The room was silent, save for the hum of the pool's machinery. The massive basin was entirely covered by the thick blue PVC tarp.
Victor was sitting in the lounge chair, casually swirling the amber liquid in his glass. He didn't look surprised to see the bleeding, breathless security chief standing there with a gun leveled at his chest.

"You're late, Marcus," Victor said smoothly, taking a slow sip of his bourbon. "The show is already over. The cover is locked, the pool is filled to the brim. She’s currently breathing her last."
"Open it," Marcus snarled, his finger tightening on the trigger. "Open it right now, Victor, or I put a hollow-point through your skull."
