By Tuesday, the scandal had hit the local press. Papparazzi swarmed the Bennett estate. Ruth rested by the fireplace, her neck wrapped in a silk scarf to hide the bruising. Despite the physical trauma, her mind was sharper than it had been in years. The fog of Camille’s constant gaslighting had lifted.

“They didn’t just start this,” Ruth said, adjusting her reading glasses as she sifted through boxes of old corporate mail she had hoarded in the attic—the very habit Camille had cited as "dementia."

“Look at this,” Ruth pointed to a discrepancy in vendor payments from three years ago. “A company called Apex Marine Supplies. They were billing us for fiberglass we never received. Nolan approved the invoices. Camille was the vendor relations manager at the time.”

Owen leaned over the table, his stomach twisting. “They’ve been siphoning money for years. The trust was just their final score.” He pulled out his phone and dialed his private investigator. They didn't just need to find Nolan; they needed to find the money trail that connected them both.
