Chapter 5: Blackout

Chapter 5: Blackout
Before Arthur could scream for his guards, Elara’s hand slipped beneath the hem of her apron. She didn't pull a weapon; she pulled a matte-black detonator.
She pressed the single red button.
BOOM.
The chandeliers exploded. Not with fire, but with dense, blinding white smoke. Simultaneously, the ballroom was plunged into absolute darkness as the building's main power grid was severed. Panic erupted. Billionaires, senators, and socialites screamed, trampling each other in the dark.
"Grab her!" Arthur shrieked, his voice cracking in terror. "Kill her!"

Heavy boots pounded against the marble as Arthur's armed security detail rushed the epicenter of the smoke. Flashlights sliced through the haze, illuminating only the shattered tray and the terrified Victoria, screaming on the floor.
Elara was gone. Like a ghost in the machine.
