The emergency backup generators kicked in, bathing the Sterling Tower's private penthouse in an eerie red glow. Arthur paced the length of his reinforced study, downing a glass of scotch with trembling hands.
The doors burst open. Victoria stormed in, her designer dress torn, her diamonds askew. "What was that? Who was that little bitch?!" she screamed. "Why did you drop to your knees like a coward?"
"Shut up, Victoria," Arthur growled, his voice deadly low. He picked up a secure, encrypted satellite phone. He dialed a number that wasn't in any directory.
"Vance's daughter is alive," Arthur said into the receiver. "She's here. She knows."

A raspy voice on the other end chuckled. "I’ll send the cleaners, Mr. Sterling. The price just tripled."
"I don't care about the price!" Arthur roared. "I want her erased. Tonight."
