I spun around, leveling my weapon. Descending the marble staircase was a tall, scarred man in a bespoke suit, flanked by four cartel gunmen.
It was Alejandro, the boss of the Los Toros cartel. But that wasn't what made my blood run cold.
Alejandro smiled, looking past the weeping Holloways and locking eyes directly with me. "Hello, Evelyn," he said softly.
My finger tightened on the trigger. "How do you know my name?"
"Because," Alejandro chuckled, pulling a silver locket from his pocket—a locket I had buried in an empty casket twenty years ago. "Your husband talked quite a bit before he died. In fact, he was the one who told us how to build this entire empire."
