Chapter 19 - The Real Vows
Three months later, the private courtyard of the Lake Forest estate was filled with seventy close friends, foundation staff, local community members, and officers from Detective Vance's precinct. There were no news cameras, no corporate sponsors, and no high-society politicians.
Violins played a gentle, melodious tune as Emma walked down the aisle, tossing white rose petals from a wicker basket, her beloved stuffed rabbit tucked into a tiny satchel across her shoulder.
Behind her came Rachel, walking down the sunlit aisle in an ethereal, simple ivory gown, holding a bouquet of wildflowers.
Adrian stood at the alter under a canopy of blooming jasmine. Beside him stood Natalie as his maid of honor, her eyes shining with joyful tears as she watched the man who had suffered so much find his true peace.
When Rachel reached the alter, Adrian took her hands, his eyes locked onto hers.
The justice of the peace stepped forward. "We are gathered here today not to join two fortunes, but to unite two souls who found light in the darkest of storms."
When the time came for vows, Adrian looked directly into Rachel’s eyes, speaking from his heart without reading from a paper.
"Rachel," Adrian spoke softly, his voice carrying clearly through the silent garden. "You proved to me that truth is stronger than fear, and that love isn't something bought or inherited—it's built with truth, respect, and kindness. I promise to protect you, honor you, and love you and Emma with everything I am for all the rest of my days."
Rachel squeezed his hands, her voice steady and full of emotion as she spoke her vows.
"Adrian, you showed me what true nobility means. You gave my daughter a home and gave me a partner who stands by me through every storm. I give you my heart, my trust, and my lifetime."
"By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife," the officiant declared with a broad smile. "You may kiss the bride!"
Adrian pulled Rachel into his arms, kissing her deeply as the entire gathering erupted into cheers and applause.

Adrian picked Emma up with one arm and pulled Rachel close with the other, holding his family tight against his heart.
