Chapter 1: Code Blue

Chapter 1: Code Blue

The wail of the ambulance siren shattered the heavy, oppressive silence of the Montgomery County courthouse plaza, tearing through the air like a jagged blade. Paramedics tore through the double doors, their heavy boots slipping violently on the thick, dark pools of blood slicking the white marble. Harrison Cole didn’t move an inch from his sister’s side. His impeccably tailored Italian silk suit was completely ruined, soaked in crimson, but he didn’t care. His large, powerful hands were pressing a makeshift tourniquet made of discarded woolen jackets frantically against her lower abdomen, trying desperately to stem the catastrophic hemorrhaging.

"Her blood pressure is bottoming out!" a paramedic shouted over the screaming sirens, violently shoving a rolling gurney into position beside them. "We need to move, right now! We are losing her!"

Harrison stepped back just half a step, giving them just enough clearance to lift Khloe's broken body onto the stretcher. His eyes, usually sharp, calculating, and laser-focused on destroying opposing counsel in a courtroom, were completely hollowed out by raw, primal terror. He watched the heavy emergency doors swing shut behind the stretcher, cutting off his view, before he slowly, deliberately turned his head toward the top of the grand marble stairs.

Vanessa Kensington was in handcuffs. Two burly courthouse deputies had her violently pinned against the security scanner, reading her Miranda rights aloud while she sobbed hysterically, her expensive hair disheveled. Ten feet away stood Richard Harrington. He was staring down at his own blood-stained hands, utterly paralyzed by shock, unable to process the magnitude of what he had allowed to happen.

Harrison walked back up the thirty marble steps with a terrifying, unhurried, mechanical precision. He didn't yell. He didn't throw a punch. He simply stepped into Richard's personal space, leaning in close until his lips brushed Richard's ear. His voice was a lethal, quiet whisper that froze the blood in Richard's veins.

"By the time the sun sets today, Richard, you will not have a single dime, a single share, a single company, or a future," Harrison whispered, his voice dripping with venomous calm. "Pray she survives this. Because if my sister dies, I won't need a courtroom or a judge to handle you. I will dismantle you piece by breathing piece."
