Chapter 5: The Boardroom Slaughter

Chapter 5: The Boardroom Slaughter

At precisely 9:00 AM on Monday morning, Richard Harrington pushed open the heavy glass double doors of the executive boardroom at Harrington Commercial Group. He was desperate, desperate to leverage his remaining corporate stock options for an emergency line of credit to salvage his collapsing life. But the moment he stepped inside, a strange, suffocating chill stopped him dead in his tracks.

The room was unnaturally quiet. There was no chatter, no clinking of coffee cups. Every single member of the board of directors was seated rigidly around the massive mahogany table, their expressions carved from stone, refusing to make eye contact with him.

At the absolute head of the table—in the chair Richard had commanded for a decade—sat Harrison Cole.

"What the absolute hell is this?" Richard snapped, his voice cracking slightly as he pointed a trembling finger at Harrison. "Security! Get this lunatic out of my building right now!"

"Sit down, Richard," the Chairman of the Board ordered coldly, his voice devoid of any warmth or loyalty.

Harrison didn't flinch. He slowly slid a thick, leather-bound forensic audit binder across the polished mahogany table until it stopped right against Richard’s stomach.

"Over the last thirty days, my forensic accountants have compiled undeniable, watertight proof of corporate embezzlement, systemic wire fraud, and the illegal misappropriation of investor funds totaling thirty-four million dollars," Harrison stated evenly, his voice echoing off the glass walls. "All of it orchestrated by your brilliant CEO, Richard Harrington."

Richard turned ghost-white, clutching the edge of the table for support. "That’s a complete lie! He’s just a vindictive divorce attorney!"

"The Federal Bureau of Investigation didn't think it was a lie when I handed them the complete dossier at midnight," Harrison replied smoothly, casually checking the face of his expensive Rolex. "In fact, federal agents should be stepping out of the elevators in the main lobby right about... now."
