Chapter 14: Federal Sentencing
The towering federal courthouse in downtown Philadelphia stood like a grim, imposing monument of stone against the slate-colored winter sky. Richard Harrington stood before the federal district judge, wearing a cheap, ill-fitting orange jumpsuit issued by the holding facility. He looked twenty years older than his actual age; his hair was heavily grayed, his posture permanently slumped, and the arrogant, dazzling glow of the billionaire titan of industry was entirely extinguished.
Before the judge officially handed down the final sentencing verdict, Richard turned his hollow, sunken eyes toward the public gallery. Khloe sat quietly in the second row, her hand comfortably resting over Harrison’s. Richard’s bloodshot eyes silently begged her for a single shred of human forgiveness, a desperate, silent plea for mercy from the woman he had tried to destroy.
Khloe didn't blink, nor did she flinch. She maintained his gaze with eyes as cold, clear, and unyielding as a winter ocean, and then she slowly, deliberately turned her head away, completely erasing him from her field of vision.

"Richard Harrington," the judge's deep voice boomed authoritatively across the quiet courtroom. "For masterminding a massive, multi-million-dollar corporate fraud scheme and actively betraying public trust, I sentence you to twenty-two federal years in maximum security."
The gavel slammed down with a resounding finality.
