Chapter 10 - A Vow in the SnowChristmas Eve in Aspen, Colorado.

The Caldwell private lodge was nestled deep in the mountains, surrounded by towering pines and untouched powder. The chaos of New York, the boardrooms, the paparazzi, and the shadows of Rosa’s past felt like a lifetime away.
Inside the massive timber-framed living room, a fire roared in the stone hearth. Lily was fast asleep on a pile of oversized cushions, exhausted from a day of building snow forts and riding on Ethan’s shoulders through the woods. She still clutched her cloth rabbit, Button, but she was also wrapped in a hand-knit blanket Ethan’s mother had made decades ago.
Rosa stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows, watching the snow fall under the moonlight. She was wearing one of Ethan’s large flannel shirts over her leggings, a mug of hot cocoa warming her hands. She felt a profound, overwhelming sense of peace—a feeling she had never thought possible just a few months ago. Her parents were facing serious jail time, permanently removed from her life. Her daughter was safe, loved, and flourishing.
She felt Ethan’s arms wrap around her from behind, his chin resting on top of her head.
"She went down fast," Ethan murmured, his breath warm against her hair.
"She played hard today," Rosa smiled, leaning back against him. "Thank you, Ethan. For this. For everything."
Ethan gently turned her around so she was facing him. He took the mug of cocoa from her hands and set it on the window ledge. The firelight flickered across his face, highlighting the deep affection in his steel-grey eyes.
"You don't ever have to thank me, Rosa," he said softly, his hands moving to cup her face. "You gave me back my life. You gave me my daughter. You turned a house made of ice into a home."
Rosa’s breath hitched. She looked up at him, her heart swelling with an emotion so powerful it brought tears to her eyes. "I love you," she whispered, the words slipping out naturally, a truth she had held in her heart since the dark room at the St. Regis.
Ethan’s eyes darkened with intense emotion. He took a step back, and before Rosa could comprehend what was happening, the billionaire—the man who bowed to no one, who controlled markets and broke empires—dropped to one knee on the hardwood floor.
Rosa gasped, her hands flying to her mouth.
Ethan reached into his pocket and pulled out a small velvet box. He flipped it open. Inside sat a breathtaking diamond, flawless and brilliant, flanked by two deep blue sapphires.
"Three years ago, I fell in love with a woman in the dark," Ethan said, his voice thick with emotion. "I spent my life building walls, acquiring power, thinking it would keep me safe from the coldness of this world. But none of it meant anything until I found you again. You are the strongest, bravest, most beautiful soul I have ever known, Rosa Martinez."
Tears spilled down Rosa’s cheeks. She nodded frantically, unable to form words.
"I vow to protect you," Ethan continued, looking up at her with fierce devotion. "I vow to honor you. And I vow that you will never spend another day of your life feeling invisible or afraid. Marry me, Rosa. Let me be your husband. Let us be a family, in front of the whole damn world."
"Yes," Rosa choked out, dropping to her knees so she was right in front of him. "Yes, Ethan. Yes."
Ethan smiled, a brilliant, unrestrained smile. He slipped the ring onto her finger—a perfect fit. Then he pulled her into a crushing, passionate kiss, pulling her tightly against his chest.
Outside, the snow continued to fall, burying the past and covering the world in a pristine, beautiful white. For the first time in her life, Rosa wasn't running. She was exactly where she was meant to be.

But miles away, in a dimly lit office in London, a man looked at a photograph of Ethan, Rosa, and Lily on his desk. He traced a finger over Ethan’s face, a cold, calculating smile playing on his lips.
The past was buried, but the future held its own ghosts. And Ethan Caldwell’s older, long-exiled brother was finally ready to come home.
