Chapter 5 - Reclaiming the EstateOne month later.

The Caldwell estate in Greenwich was bathed in the warm, golden light of late afternoon. The heavy iron gates, previously surrounded by vultures with cameras, were now guarded by high-end security.
Inside the mansion, the crushing, museum-like silence was gone.
Laughter echoed down the marble hallways. The sound of little feet running across the expensive Persian rugs was a constant, welcome disruption.
In the east parlor, the heavy drapes had been pulled back, flooding the room with sunlight. Ethan stood leaning against the doorframe, a soft, genuine smile playing on his lips—an expression the business world had never seen, and likely never would.
At the grand, black Steinway piano sat Rosa. She wasn't wearing a maid's uniform. She was wearing a stunning, simple emerald green dress that complimented her dark hair, which fell in loose, natural waves down her back. Sitting on her lap was Lily.
"Okay," Rosa said softly, guiding Lily’s small hands over the keys. "Remember what I showed you? Just press gently."
Lily bit her lip in concentration and pressed middle C. The note rang out, clear and beautiful.
"It sings!" Lily cheered, looking up at her mother with wide, grey eyes.
"It does sing," Ethan said, stepping into the room.
Both mother and daughter turned to look at him. Lily scrambled off the bench and ran toward him. Ethan caught her, lifting her effortlessly into his arms and pressing a kiss to her cheek.
"Daddy, I made a song!"
"I heard it, little bird. It was a masterpiece," Ethan smiled, walking over to the piano where Rosa still sat. He leaned down, kissing Rosa deeply, a promise of everything they had built over the last four weeks.
The transition hadn't been easy. The media had exploded when Ethan announced his new family. Sylvia had tried one last desperate smear campaign, but the release of the parlor security footage had decimated her social standing. She had become a pariah in the very circles she used to rule.
As for Rosa’s family, Ethan had kept his word. A highly publicized federal investigation into her father’s business dealings had frozen their assets. They were too busy trying to stay out of prison to ever cast a shadow over Rosa again. The ghosts of the past were firmly locked away.
"You're home early," Rosa said, resting her hand on his arm as he set Lily down to run back to her toys.
"I bought the firm I wanted. There was no need to stay," Ethan replied, sliding onto the piano bench beside her. He looked around the room, taking in the warmth that now filled his home. "Besides, I missed my girls."
He reached out, his long, elegant fingers brushing the piano keys, playing a soft, melodic chord. He looked at Rosa, his eyes full of a profound, unshakable peace.
"This house used to feel freezing," Ethan murmured, his shoulder brushing against hers. "I thought it was just the marble."
"And now?" Rosa asked, leaning her head on his shoulder.
May you like
Ethan wrapped his arm around her waist, pulling her close as they watched their daughter dance in the sunlight.
"Now," the billionaire whispered, kissing the top of her head, "it's finally a home."
