Chapter 4 - The UltimatumThe private jet soared smoothly at forty thousand feet, leaving the media circus in Connecticut far behind. They were heading to Ethan’s secluded fortress in the Swiss Alps—a place unreachable by paparazzi or bitter ex-fiancées.

Inside the cabin, the atmosphere was quiet but tense. Lily was asleep on the plush velvet sofa, wrapped in a heated blanket, her little cloth rabbit clutched tightly in her hands.
Rosa sat across from Ethan, staring out the window at the endless sea of clouds. The DNA results had arrived just before they boarded. 99.9% probability. Ethan was officially a father.
"I don't want her growing up spoiled," Rosa broke the silence, her voice quiet but firm.
Ethan looked up from the dossier he was reading. "Spoiled?"
"She has lived a quiet life. A humble life," Rosa turned to look at him, her dark eyes fierce with a mother's protective instincts. "I won't let her become like Sylvia. I won't let her think that money gives her the right to push people down."
Ethan closed the dossier and set it on the table between them. "She will never become Sylvia because she has you for a mother. And she has me." He leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. "I grew up in that mansion, Rosa. It was cold. It was empty. My parents loved their wealth more than they loved me. The only time I ever felt warmth was when my mother played that piano. When she died, the house died with her."
He looked over at his sleeping daughter. "When I saw Lily pressing those keys yesterday... it was the first time that house felt alive in twenty years."
Rosa’s expression softened. She saw the vulnerability in the billionaire—a crack in the flawless, intimidating armor.
"What happens now?" she asked. "We can't hide in Switzerland forever."
"We aren't hiding," Ethan stated matter-of-factly. "We are regrouping. Tomorrow, my lawyers will file a petition to legally change Lily’s last name to Caldwell. I am establishing a trust in her name, securing her future."
"And what about me?" Rosa asked, the question slipping out before she could stop it. She felt her cheeks flush. "Am I just... the incubator? The nanny who lives in the guest wing?"
Ethan went perfectly still. He looked at her, his steel-grey eyes burning with an intensity that made Rosa’s breath catch in her throat. Slowly, he stood up, crossing the small space between them until he was sitting right beside her on the leather seats.
"Do you think I searched for you for six months just because of a child I didn't know existed?" Ethan asked, his voice a low, magnetic rumble. "Do you think I let you work in my home, watched you every single day, memorized the way you pin your hair, the way you smile at her, the way you respect the silence... just because you were a good maid?"
Rosa’s heart hammered against her ribs. She couldn't look away from him.
"I told myself I was crazy," Ethan admitted, reaching out to gently tuck a stray lock of dark hair behind her ear. His touch was electric, sending a shiver down her spine. "I told myself I was marrying Sylvia because it made sense. But every time I saw you, I felt like I was waking up from a long, dead sleep."
May you like
"Ethan..." Rosa whispered, her eyes fluttering shut as his thumb traced her jawline.
"You are not the nanny, Rosa," he said fiercely. "You are the woman who brought light back into my life. And I am going to spend the rest of my life proving to you that you never have to be afraid, or hide, ever again."
