Chapter 6: The PR War

By Tuesday morning, Apex Strategy had officially launched their counter-offensive. Marcus Thorne, a notoriously vicious spin doctor who specialized in burying corporate scandals, sat in Julian’s office, sipping sparkling water and reviewing digital analytics.

"The internet loves a villain, Julian, but they love a gold digger even more," Marcus said, tapping his tablet. "We can't erase the video. But we can change the context. We make you the victim of an elaborate extortion plot."

Julian, desperate for a lifeline, nodded eagerly. "Do it. Whatever it takes."

Within hours, the smear campaign was deployed with military precision. Blind items began appearing on prominent gossip blogs like Page Six and unverified tech forums. The stories all shared the same meticulously crafted narrative: The billionaire groom was undoubtedly clumsy, but the mother of the child saw an opportunity for a quick payday.

Tabloid headlines started to shift.

"WEDDING CRASHER? Single Mother Allegedly Demands $100,000 Hush Money from Tech CEO After Champagne Mishap."

"THE TRUE COST OF A SPILL: Did an Opportunistic Guest Try to Extort Vanguard Tech's Founder?"

Apex Strategy deployed bots on X and Reddit to amplify the articles. They leaked the heavily edited detail that Julian had generously offered to pay for any "damages" on the spot, but the mother had maliciously refused, supposedly holding out for a six-figure settlement to keep quiet.

Sitting in his office, watching the social media tide slowly begin to turn, Julian let out a massive sigh of relief. The narrative was muddying. People were starting to argue in the comment sections, questioning the mother's motives. The bleeding in Vanguard’s stock price temporarily slowed.

Julian leaned back in his ergonomic leather chair, a smug, arrogant smile slowly returning to his face. He had unlimited resources. He had the best fixers money could buy. This unknown woman—this single mother from Brooklyn who had dared to stand up to him—was about to be crushed under the weight of his machine.

He assumed she would issue a frantic, tearful denial. He assumed she would hire a cheap, strip-mall lawyer to beg for a retraction, which Apex Strategy would easily bury in endless bureaucratic delays.

He assumed completely wrong.
