Chapter 5 - The Lobby Walk of Shame

The walk to the elevator felt like a funeral march.

Julian’s mind was entirely shattered. The reality of his situation was crashing down on him in violent, nauseating waves. He didn't own the resorts. He didn't own the brand. He was a tenant who had just been evicted, completely and utterly ruined by the woman he had discarded like trash just hours prior.

Beside him, Chloe was hyperventilating. One of the grey-suited security men had coldly but firmly forced her to remove the vintage emerald pendant and leave the cashmere coat on the sofa. She was now shivering in the thin cocktail dress she had worn the night before.

The private elevator descended rapidly. Ding.

The polished steel doors slid open to the grand lobby.

Just twelve hours ago, Julian had stood in this exact spot, a king banishing a peasant. He had watched Elena get dragged through the lobby while VIP guests watched in stunned silence.

Now, the roles were reversed with brutal precision.

The lobby was entirely empty of guests. The doors had been locked. But standing in two perfect, silent lines flanking the main entrance were the entire senior staff of the Lumière Cascades. The concierge, the sommeliers, the head chefs, the bellhops. They stood at attention, watching Julian with cold, unforgiving eyes.

And at the center of the lobby, sitting in a velvet wingback chair next to the grand fireplace, was Elena.

She was no longer the soaked, devastated woman from the night before. She was immaculate. She wore a tailored white Tom Ford suit that radiated power. Her hair was perfectly styled, and she was casually sipping a shot of espresso from a porcelain cup.

Julian stumbled forward, his arrogant posture completely collapsed.

"Elena..." his voice cracked. He sounded like a frightened child. "Elena, please. This is a misunderstanding. We can talk about this."

Elena slowly lowered her espresso cup. She didn't stand up. She didn't need to. She commanded the entire room from her seat.

"Talk about what, Julian?" she asked, her voice echoing perfectly in the silent lobby. "About how you built this empire with your 'bare hands'?"

"Elena, you can't do this! I am the face of Lumière! The investors will pull out!" he begged, stepping toward her, only to be instantly blocked by two massive security guards.

"There are no investors, Julian," Elena smiled, a chilling expression that made him flinch. "There is only my father. And me. We funded your playground. We gave you the illusion of power to see what you would do with it. You failed the test."

Chloe, realizing the sheer magnitude of what was happening, stepped away from Julian. She looked at Elena, her eyes wide with terror. "I... I didn't know, Mrs. Sterling. I swear, he told me you were divorcing... he told me he was leaving you..."

Elena’s gaze flicked to the young mistress. "You can leave, Chloe. But let this be a lesson. Never wear another woman's jewelry until you're sure the king is actually wearing the crown."

Chloe didn't hesitate. She practically ran toward the glass doors, pushing past the security guards and fleeing out into the crisp morning air, leaving Julian entirely alone.

Julian fell to his knees in the center of the lobby. The man who had everything was now surrounded by his former employees, kneeling on the marble floor he had falsely claimed as his own.

"You took everything from me," Julian wept, his face buried in his hands.

Elena finally stood up. She walked over to him, the click of her heels sounding like gunshots in the quiet room. She leaned down, her lips inches from his ear.

"I didn't take anything, Julian," she whispered. "I just took back what was mine. Now, get off my property."
