Chapter 7 - Reclaiming the Crown

At 10:00 AM, the grand glass atrium of Aethelgard World Headquarters in downtown Seattle was packed to capacity. Over two hundred journalists, financial analysts, and corporate executives jostled for space beneath the towering steel-and-glass structure.

On the main stage stood a polished black mahogany podium featuring the crest of Aethelgard: a silver falcon rising from a shield.

The room fell into dead silence as the side doors opened.

Arthur Sterling walked out first. The legendary billionaire, now seventy-one, looked imposing in his charcoal three-piece suit, his presence commanding immediate authority. But he did not take the podium.

He stepped aside, extending his hand toward his daughter.

Elena Sterling stepped onto the stage.

She wore a midnight-blue double-breasted suit. Her dark hair was pulled into a sleek, flawless low bun. Her posture was absolute power, her gaze sweeping over the sea of flashing cameras with cold, unyielding confidence.

"Good morning, ladies and gentlemen," Elena’s voice resonated through the state-of-the-art sound system, clear, precise, and completely devoid of tremor. "Thank you for coming on such short notice."

A barrage of questions immediately erupted from the press.

"Ms. Sterling! Is it true that Lumière Management has collapsed?"

"Are you filing for divorce from Julian Vance?"

"Who actually owns the Lumière brand?"

Elena raised a single hand, and the room instantly quieted.

"For the past nine years," Elena began, "the public has known Lumière as an operational brand managed by Mr. Julian Vance. What the public was not aware of is that every blueprint, every architectural structure, every acre of land, and every single trademark was designed, funded, and owned entirely by Aethelgard Holdings—a private entity founded by my family, of which I am the sole Chief Executive Officer."

She clicked a small remote in her hand. The massive digital screen behind her illuminated, displaying legal deeds, patent filings, and ownership structures dating back to 2017.

"Effective at midnight," Elena continued, "Aethelgard Holdings formally terminated all operational leases held by Lumière Management due to catastrophic breaches of fiduciary trust, unauthorized diversion of corporate funds, and default on debt covenants."

Gasps rippled through the audience.

"What happens to the fourteen resorts worldwide?" a financial editor from the Wall Street Journal shouted.

"They will not close for a single minute," Elena replied smoothly. "Starting today, the entire global network of fourteen luxury properties will be consolidated under our parent umbrella and rebranded as The Sterling Reserve. All staff members—from general managers to housekeepers—have been retained under upgraded contracts with full benefits and guaranteed emergency payroll."

She leaned forward against the podium, looking directly into the primary broadcast camera lens. She knew Julian was watching somewhere on a muted television screen in a dive bar or a train station.

"Julian Vance was never the architect of this empire," Elena said, her tone dropping into a lethal, quiet intensity. "He was merely an employee who forgot who owned the house. His tenure is concluded. Effective immediately, he has no authority, no affiliation, and no access to any asset within the Sterling portfolio."

David Croft, the lead attorney, stepped up to the secondary microphone. "Furthermore, Aethelgard Holdings has filed formal legal proceedings against Mr. Vance in federal court, alleging corporate embezzlement, wire fraud, and breach of executive duty. We are seeking full restitution in excess of three hundred and fifty million dollars."

The room burst into absolute chaos as reporters scrambled to file their breaking news stories.

In the wings of the stage, Arthur Sterling walked up to his daughter, placing a proud, heavy hand on her shoulder.

"You handled that like a Sterling, El," Arthur murmured, a faint smile touching his weathered lips. "Now... how do you want to handle his next move?"

Elena turned her gaze toward the window, looking out over the Seattle skyline.

"Julian is a rat cornered in a trap, Dad," she said quietly. "And a rat will always run to the filthiest hole it can find."
