Chapter 2: The Crimson Stain and Cold Steel

Chapter 2: The Crimson Stain and Cold Steel
The VIP suite, once a sanctuary of hushed luxury and amber lighting, instantly transformed into a battlefield the moment the trauma team breached the heavy oak doors. It was a chaotic, hyper-coordinated symphony of medical jargon, screeching rubber wheels, and the terrifying, sterile scent of antiseptic that completely overpowered the lingering smell of Isabella’s expensive perfume.
Six medical professionals swarmed Khloe in a blur of navy blue scrubs. They descended upon her with ruthless efficiency, their trained eyes immediately diagnosing the catastrophic nature of the trauma.
"Blunt force trauma to the abdomen and lower lumbar!" shouted Dr. Aris, the chief of obstetrics who had been pulled from her on-call room. She dropped to her knees right in the spilled champagne, completely disregarding the glass shards biting into her pants. "Patient is twenty-eight weeks pregnant. I need a fetal heart monitor on her right now, and get a crash cart standing by. Vitals!"
"Heart rate is one-forty and erratic," a nurse responded, rapidly wrapping a blood pressure cuff around Khloe’s pale, trembling arm. "BP is dropping, ninety over sixty. She's going into shock."
Marcus was shoved backward by the sheer mass of the medical team. He stumbled, his expensive patent-leather shoes slipping on the wet marble. For a man who controlled thousands of employees and dictated global market trends with a single phone call, the absolute lack of control in this moment was paralyzing. His hands, stained with his wife's blood, hovered uselessly in the air.
"Khloe," he choked out, trying to step around a nurse who was expertly slicing through the ruined silk of Khloe's maternity gown to access her abdomen.
"Sir, you need to step back," a burly orderly ordered, holding a firm hand against Marcus's chest. "Let them work. If you interfere, she could die. Step back!"
The word die echoed in Marcus’s head like a gunshot. He retreated, his back hitting the wall, his chest heaving as he watched his wife writhe in agony on the floor.
Khloe’s world was a fragmented nightmare of blinding white lights and overwhelming pain. The agony in her side, where Isabella’s heel had struck, felt like a burning spear lodged in her ribs. But that pain was secondary to the deep, terrifying cramping that was suddenly ripping through her uterus. Her body was panicking, trauma forcing it into a state of premature defense.
No. Not yet. It’s too early.
"Baby," Khloe gasped, her head thrashing against the hard marble. "My baby... please..."
"I've got you, Khloe," Dr. Aris said, her voice a calm, commanding anchor in the storm of panic. She pressed the ultrasound wand against Khloe’s exposed, trembling belly. The room fell into a terrifying, breathless silence as everyone waited for the machine to register.
For three agonizing seconds, there was nothing but static. Marcus stopped breathing. The orderly holding him back tensed.
Then, the rhythmic, rapid thump-thump-thump of a fetal heartbeat filled the room. It was abnormally fast, stressed by the mother’s trauma, but it was there.
"Fetal heart rate is one-eighty. Distressed, but active," Dr. Aris commanded, rising to her feet. "We need her in Trauma OR One, right now. Prepare for a possible emergency C-section. On three, lift! One, two, three!"
They transferred Khloe onto the gurney in one fluid, synchronized motion. Marcus lunged forward, grabbing Khloe’s hand just as they began to wheel her toward the doors. Her skin was freezing, slick with cold sweat.
"I'm right here," Marcus said, jogging alongside the gurney as they pushed it down the hallway. "I'm not leaving you."
"Sir, you can't come into the sterile field," Dr. Aris warned as they approached the double doors of the surgical wing.
"I am not leaving her!" Marcus roared, the raw desperation tearing at his vocal cords.
While the chaotic fight for Khloe’s life unfolded in the corridor, a very different kind of reality was crashing down inside the ruined VIP suite.
Four NYPD officers, heavily armed and unamused, had entered the room the moment the medical team cleared the doorway. Richard Vance stood by the marble console, his tablet still in hand, watching with cold satisfaction as the officers closed in on Isabella Rossi.
"Isabella Rossi," the lead officer, a grizzled sergeant with no patience for high-society tantrums, stated flatly. "Turn around and place your hands behind your back."
Isabella backed away, her Louboutin heels crunching on the glass. The terror on her face was no longer an act. The reality of the high-definition camera, the blood on the floor, and the unyielding expressions of the police officers had finally shattered her delusion of invincibility.
"You don't understand," Isabella stammered, holding her hands up defensively. Her voice was shrill, teetering on the edge of hysteria. "I'm a Rossi. My father is Victor Rossi. He's on the board of trustees for this hospital! You can't touch me!"
"I don't care if your father is the Mayor of New York," the sergeant replied, closing the distance. He grabbed her right wrist, twisting it expertly behind her back.
"Get your hands off me!" Isabella shrieked, thrashing wildly. The crimson gown, which had looked so elegant an hour ago, was now twisted and disheveled. She kicked out, trying to strike the officer, her desperation turning her feral.
"Resisting arrest. Good. Keep going, lady, add to the charges," the sergeant grunted. With a swift, practiced motion, he swept her leg, forcing her down onto her knees directly into the puddle of spilled champagne.
The cold steel of the handcuffs clamped down violently around her delicate wrists. The sharp click-click-click of the locking mechanism was the loudest sound in the room.
"Isabella Rossi, you are under arrest for aggravated assault and attempted murder," the sergeant recited, his voice a monotone drone that completely ignored her sobbing. "You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law..."
"Richard!" Isabella sobbed, twisting her head to look at Khloe’s uncle. "Richard, please! It was a mistake! Tell them to stop! I'll pay for everything!"
Richard slowly put his tablet back into his suit jacket. He walked over, looking down at the heiress on her knees in the dirt and glass.

"You didn't just attack my niece, Isabella," Richard said, his voice dropping to a lethal whisper. "You attacked the Thorne heir. You are going to spend the best years of your life in a concrete box, and I am going to make sure your father watches you rot. Take her out the back freight elevator. I don't want the press downstairs getting a photo of her until her mugshot is released."
As they dragged Isabella away, her manicured nails scraping uselessly against the handcuffs, the suite finally fell silent again.
