CHAPTER 6: THE FILE DANIEL NEVER WANTED FOUND

CHAPTER 6: THE FILE DANIEL NEVER WANTED FOUND

The headline was everywhere.

Not because Daniel Cross had done anything wrong.

Not yet.

Because powerful people knew how to control the story before the truth ever arrived.

By eight o'clock in the morning, every article had the same message:

"Billionaire Daniel Cross Faces Trouble After Wife Leaves Mansion Days After Wedding."

They didn't mention the broken plates.

They didn't mention the threats.

They didn't mention the way Daniel looked at me like I was something he owned.

They called it a "marital disagreement."

A misunderstanding.

A private matter.

I stared at my laptop screen and almost laughed.

Private.

That was the word powerful people loved.

They used it whenever they wanted to hide something.

I closed the article.

Then I looked at Emily.

She hadn't slept.

Neither had I.

We were sitting in a small apartment across town, surrounded by documents, notes, and everything we had discovered about Daniel.

Two women.

Two stories.

One enemy.

"What happens now?" I asked.

Emily looked at the table.

"Now?"

She gave a tired smile.

"Now Daniel starts destroying your reputation."

I frowned.

"He already started."

"No."

She shook her head.

"That was just the beginning."

She opened her laptop.

"You don't understand how Daniel fights."

I watched her fingers move across the keyboard.

"Tell me."

Emily hesitated.

Then she opened a folder.

Inside were dozens of documents.

"He doesn't attack people directly."

She clicked on the first file.

"He makes everyone else attack them for him."

The screen showed names.

Employees.

Business partners.

Former friends.

"What are these?"

"People who challenged Daniel."

I looked closer.

Every person had the same pattern.

A successful career.

A sudden scandal.

A public fall.

A disappearance from the spotlight.

My stomach tightened.

"He ruins them."

Emily nodded.

"Without ever touching them."

That was the terrifying part.

Daniel didn't need violence.

He had money.

Influence.

A network of people willing to do anything for him.

"Why didn't anyone stop him?"

Emily looked at me.

"Because everyone thinks they're the only one."

The words stayed with me.

Everyone who fought Daniel probably believed they were alone.

But they weren't.

They just didn't know about each other.

"How many people has he done this to?"

Emily was quiet.

Then she answered.

"Too many."

A few hours later, we drove to a storage facility outside the city.

I looked at Emily.

"You kept all of this?"

She nodded.

"I knew one day I might need it."

The storage unit was small.

Nothing special.

But when Emily opened the door...

I understood why Daniel wanted her gone.

Boxes filled the room.

Thousands of pages.

Hard drives.

Old files.

Evidence.

"You collected everything."

Emily looked ashamed.

"I was scared."

"That's not a bad thing."

She shook her head.

"You don't understand."

She touched one of the boxes.

"I helped him create some of this."

I stayed silent.

Emily continued.

"When I started working for Daniel, I thought I was helping build a company."

She opened a folder.

"Then I realized I was helping him build control."

Inside were employee records.

Private information.

Medical records.

Financial problems.

Personal secrets.

My hands tightened.

"He used these against people."

"Yes."

"How did you find out?"

Emily looked at one file.

"Rachel."

The name again.

"The first wife."

She nodded.

"Rachel discovered what Daniel was doing."

I looked through the documents.

"What did she find?"

Emily reached deeper into the storage unit.

Then she pulled out a black folder.

"This."

The folder looked different.

Older.

More protected.

I opened it.

The first page had a name.

PROJECT ECLIPSE

I looked at Emily.

"What is this?"

She swallowed.

"Daniel's biggest secret."

I turned the page.

There were financial documents.

Company transfers.

Private agreements.

Names of investors.

But something didn't make sense.

"What am I looking at?"

Emily sat beside me.

"Daniel inherited Cross Industries from his father."

"I know."

"Everyone knows."

She pointed at the documents.

"But nobody knows the company was almost bankrupt."

I looked up.

"What?"

"Seven years ago, Cross Industries was failing."

I read the numbers.

She was right.

The company was losing millions.

"So how did he save it?"

Emily's face became serious.

"He didn't."

A cold feeling moved through me.

"What do you mean?"

"Daniel didn't save the company."

She pointed at the documents.

"He hid the collapse."

I looked closer.

"How?"

"Illegal transfers."

"Fake investments."

"Hidden accounts."

I turned the pages faster.

"These are serious accusations."

Emily nodded.

"That's why Rachel disappeared."

I stopped.

"She knew?"

"Yes."

"And Daniel couldn't let her expose him."

The room became silent.

I looked at the folder.

The truth was much bigger than a bad marriage.

Daniel wasn't just controlling women.

He was protecting an empire built on lies.

Then something caught my attention.

A document near the bottom.

My name.

I froze.

"Emily."

She looked over.

"What?"

I slowly pulled the paper out.

It wasn't old.

It was recent.

Very recent.

The date was from two months ago.

Before our wedding.

The title read:

MARRIAGE STRATEGY PLAN

My hands went cold.

"What is this?"

Emily looked confused.

"I've never seen that."

I opened it.

The first sentence made my heart stop.

Objective: Establish a personal connection with Victoria Hale to gain access to her family's assets and reputation network.

I couldn't breathe.

Victoria Hale.

My name.

My marriage.

My entire relationship with Daniel...

Was a strategy.

Not love.

I kept reading.

Subject demonstrates strong emotional attachment and trust. Marriage recommended as final step.

My eyes blurred.

Three days.

Three days as his wife.

And I finally learned the truth.

Daniel Cross didn't fall in love with me.

He selected me.

Like a business investment.

Emily touched my shoulder.

"I'm sorry."

I didn't answer.

Because something inside me had changed.

The woman who left Daniel's house last night was hurt.

Confused.

Trying to understand.

But the woman standing in that storage room...

Was different.

I closed the folder.

Slowly.

Carefully.

Then I smiled.

Emily looked at me.

"What?"

I looked at Daniel's plan.

The plan he believed was perfect.

"The first mistake Daniel made..."

I held up the document.

"Was thinking I would break when I learned the truth."

Emily watched me.

"What are you going to do?"

I looked at the evidence.

At the lies.

At everything Daniel tried to hide.

"I'm going to finish what he started."

"Meaning?"

I placed the folder into my bag.

"Daniel wanted to play a game."

I looked toward the door.

"Now I'm going to make sure he loses."

That evening, Daniel Cross held a press conference.

He stood in front of cameras.

Perfect suit.

Perfect smile.

Perfect image.

He told the world:

"My wife is going through an emotional time. I only want what's best for her."

People believed him.

They always did.

But what Daniel didn't know...

Was that while he was telling the world a lie...

I was holding the truth in my hands.

May you like

And soon...

Everyone would see the man behind the mask.
