Minutes later, the cellar door swung open again. Beatrice lunged for the dropped gun, but a familiar, frantic voice stopped her.
"Beatrice! It's me!"
Leo dropped into the cellar. He was covered in blood—most of it not his own. When he saw the dead mercenary on the floor and Beatrice shaking in the corner with Lily, he fell to his knees.
He pulled them both into a crushing embrace. "You're safe. They're all dead. Mateo is securing the perimeter."

Leo pulled back, cupping Beatrice's face in his large hands. His thumbs wiped away the dirt and tears on her cheeks. "You saved her again. You saved my whole world."
Right there, in the freezing dark of the cellar, Leo Rossi leaned in and kissed her. It wasn't a tentative kiss; it was desperate, fierce, and possessive. Beatrice gasped, melting into his touch, realizing that she had finally stopped being invisible.
