Chapter 15: Thunder and Light
A year after the night at the cellar door, a summer storm rolled across Lake Michigan.
In the sunroom of the estate, Lily was sitting on the floor, working on a massive puzzle. At eight years old, she was vibrant, talkative, and completely healed from the traumas of her past.
Thunder cracked loudly, rattling the glass. Lily didn't flinch. She just looked over at the plush velvet sofa.
Beatrice was resting on the couch, one hand resting on the very visible, rounded swell of her pregnant belly. Leo was sitting on the floor beside her, his head resting against her knee as he reviewed some paperwork.
"Heaven is moving its furniture again," Lily announced happily.

Leo smiled, reaching up to intertwine his fingers with Beatrice’s. "Let them," he said, looking up at his wife with eyes full of utter devotion. "We have everything we need right here."
Beatrice smiled, squeezing his hand. The storm raged outside, but inside the Rossi estate, she had finally found her forever safe haven.
