Chapter 10 - Into the Dark

Arthur clicked on his high-powered flashlight, but the beam barely pierced the thick black fog. He found himself standing in a distorted, twisted version of the house's own hallway. The walls were made of damp, breathing stone, and the floor felt like soft, rotting wood. Whispers echoed around him, bouncing off the walls in a dizzying chorus. Some voices sounded like crying children, while others were deep and menacing. He ignored them, focusing on the faint, desperate sound of Mason calling his name. Arthur moved forward, driving pure iron nails into the strange walls to mark his path. The fog grew thicker with every step, clinging to his skin like freezing water. Shadowy figures darted past the edges of his vision, trying to distract his focus. He kept his eyes straight ahead, refusing to let the fear take root in his mind. He knew that showing terror would only make the monster stronger.
