Chapter 19 - Lingering Shadows

Autumn arrived, painting the forest around the cabin in vibrant shades of gold and red. The family gathered around the dinner table, sharing stories and laughing loudly. It was the first Thanksgiving since the terrifying incident, and there was much to be grateful for. Arthur watched his grandchildren smile, feeling a deep sense of pride in their resilience. However, as he walked outside to fetch more firewood, a chill ran down his spine. He paused by the edge of the dark woods, staring into the dense trees. For a brief moment, he thought he smelled a faint, metallic odor carried on the wind. He shook his head, blaming his old age and an overactive imagination. He gathered the wood and hurried back inside to the warmth and safety of his family. But deep down, a tiny seed of doubt remained planted in his mind. He silently promised to always stay vigilant.
