Chapter 14 - The Struggle
Arthur could feel the rope tugging against his waist, guiding him through the suffocating fog. Mason was struggling to keep up, his legs weakened by days of captivity. The monster was right behind them, its freezing breath prickling the hair on Arthur's neck. A shadow-tendril shot out, wrapping tightly around Mason's ankle and pulling him down. Mason screamed as he was dragged backward into the darkness. Arthur spun around, bringing the heavy iron crowbar down hard on the shadowy limb. The iron burned through the darkness, severing the tendril completely. Arthur pulled Mason to his feet, throwing his own arm around the boy's waist to support him. He could see a faint square of light in the distance. It was the closet door, their only gateway back to the real world. They pushed forward with everything they had left.
