Chapter 10 - Checkmate and BirthThe VIP floor was in absolute pandemonium.

Nurses rushed a mobile fetal monitor into Khloe’s room while the fire alarms continued to blare. Uncle Richard sprinted down the hallway, having abandoned his other duties the second he heard his niece was in early labor.
"Her blood pressure is skyrocketing," Richard yelled over the alarm, checking the monitors. "The stress of the alarm induced early labor. We can't move her to the delivery ward safely, we have to deliver here!"
Marcus stood firmly by Khloe’s side, gripping her hand as she screamed through another agonizing contraction.
"Breathe, sweetheart. Look at me, just look at me," Marcus pleaded, his eyes locked onto hers, anchoring her amidst the chaos. For the first time in weeks, Khloe didn't pull away. She squeezed his hand so hard she nearly broke his fingers.
Outside the room, the service elevator dinged open.
Isabella stepped out into the chaotic, flashing hallway. She saw the heavy wooden door to Khloe's suite cracked open, doctors swarming inside. She saw Marcus leaning over the bed.
Jealousy and rage blinded her entirely. She gripped the scalpel tightly and broke into a sprint toward the room.
"Khloe!" Isabella shrieked, bursting through the doorway.
Everyone froze.
But Isabella never even made it past the threshold.
Vance, Marcus's towering head of security, had been standing just inside the blind spot of the door. As Isabella lunged forward, Vance stepped in with brutal efficiency. He grabbed her wrist, twisted it sharply until the scalpel clattered to the floor, and slammed Isabella face-first into the wall.
"Threat neutralized, Mr. Thorne," Vance barked, pinning the screaming heiress to the plaster.
Marcus slowly turned his head. The look in his eyes was beyond demonic. It was the look of a man who was ready to commit murder in front of a room full of witnesses.
"Take her down to the basement," Marcus commanded softly, his voice cutting through the wailing fire alarm. "Hold her there until the police arrive. And Vance? Make sure she accidentally falls down a flight of stairs on the way."
"Understood, sir," Vance said, dragging a kicking, thrashing Isabella out of the room by her hair. It was the last time she would ever see the Thorne family. Her checkmate was complete.
"Marcus!" Khloe screamed, another massive contraction hitting her.
Marcus instantly snapped his attention back to his wife, all the violence leaving his body as he focused solely on her. "I'm here. I'm here."
"The head is crowning!" Dr. Evans shouted, rushing to the foot of the bed. "Khloe, you need to push on the next contraction! Give it everything you have!"
"I can't!" Khloe sobbed, exhausted, terrified that her baby was too small, too early.
"Yes, you can," Marcus said, kissing her sweat-drenched forehead. "You are the strongest woman I have ever known. You took down Vincenzo Rossi from a hospital bed. You can do this. Bring our son into the world, Khloe. Please."
His words, filled with genuine awe and desperate love, ignited a final spark of strength inside her.
Khloe took a deep breath, bore down, and pushed with all her might. The room seemed to hold its breath. The alarms faded into the background. There was only the intense, blinding pressure, and then—
A sharp, piercing cry filled the room.
It was tiny. It was fragile. But it was the most beautiful sound in the universe.
"It's a boy," Uncle Richard announced, tears streaming down his face as Dr. Evans quickly clamped the cord. "He's small, but his lungs are strong!"
They wrapped the tiny infant in a blanket and placed him gently on Khloe’s chest. Khloe completely broke down, sobbing uncontrollably as she looked at her son’s perfect little face.
Marcus collapsed into the chair beside the bed, burying his face in Khloe's shoulder, weeping as he wrapped his arms around both of them. For the first time, they felt like a family.

But as Khloe looked down at her beautiful son, and then at the broken, groveling billionaire husband beside her, she knew the war for her peace wasn't quite over yet.
Marcus had proven his devotion today. But a lifetime of forgiveness? That was something he was still going to have to earn.
