Chapter 9 - The Breaking PointTwo weeks passed.

Isabella Rossi’s life had become a living hell. Stripped of her wealth, her trust fund frozen, and her father indicted on federal tax evasion charges, she was trapped in a dingy safe house in Queens, waiting for her criminal trial.
She had gone from wearing custom Chanel to wearing oversized sweatpants, staring at the peeling wallpaper of her cramped room. Every time she turned on the television, she was the punchline of a late-night joke. The internet had branded her the "Stiletto Psycho."
Her mind, already fragile from her pathological narcissism, finally snapped.
It’s all her fault, Isabella muttered to herself, pacing the small room, biting her nails until they bled. Khloe ruined my life. She stole Marcus. She stole my money. If I’m going to prison, I’m taking her with me.
Meanwhile, at the hospital, Khloe was finally approaching her 34th week of pregnancy.
The baby was growing stronger, and the doctors were optimistic. But the trauma of the assault still lingered. Her sleep was plagued by nightmares. She would wake up in cold sweats, instinctively curling into a ball to protect her stomach.
One evening, while Uncle Richard was attending to a surgical emergency on another floor, the hospital's fire alarm suddenly blared.
Flashing strobe lights pierced the calm of the VIP wing. The automated voice echoed through the corridors: “Fire detected. Please evacuate the building immediately.”
In his command center across the hall, Marcus jumped to his feet. "Vance! What's the status?"
"Sir, it's a localized alarm in the basement laundry wing!" Vance yelled over the noise. "But protocol dictates we evacuate the floor!"
"Nobody moves my wife!" Marcus roared. "She's on strict bed rest! If she walks down ten flights of stairs, the placenta could rupture again! Secure her door!"
Inside her room, Khloe panicked. The sudden loud noises, the flashing lights—it triggered a massive adrenaline spike. Her breathing grew shallow. She tried to sit up, but a sudden, blinding pain ripped across her abdomen.
It wasn't like the dull ache of her healing bruises. This was a sharp, contracting pain that stole the breath from her lungs.
"Ah!" Khloe cried out, clutching her stomach as warm fluid suddenly gushed between her legs.
Her water had broken.
The door burst open, and Marcus rushed in, ignoring all of her previous boundaries. When he saw the panic on her face and the wet stain on the sheets, his heart stopped.
"Khloe!" He rushed to her side, grabbing the emergency call button and smashing it repeatedly. "Doctors! Get in here now!"
"Marcus," she gasped, her fingernails digging into his forearm as another contraction hit her like a freight train. "The baby... it's too early. It hurts!"
"I’ve got you. I'm right here," Marcus said fiercely, pressing his forehead against hers. He didn't care if she hated him; he was not leaving her side.
Down in the basement, Isabella Rossi tossed an empty gasoline canister into a flaming laundry cart. She had bribed a disgraced former employee to let her through the service entrance. She knew the fire alarm would cause chaos. She knew it would leave Khloe vulnerable.
Pulling a stolen nurse's cap low over her face, Isabella slipped into the service elevator, heading straight for the VIP floor. She slipped a cold, steel scalpel out of her pocket.
