Chapter 10 - The Viper’s Last StrikeInside the grand ballroom, the atmosphere was suffocatingly tense.

The moment Diego and Marisol entered beneath the crystal chandeliers, the classical music seemed to fade into the background. Hundreds of eyes locked onto them. The whispers spread like a wildfire. High-society matrons judged Marisol's dress, trying to pinpoint the designer, while powerful executives calculated how this mysterious new woman would affect Villaseñor Enterprises.

Diego never left her side. He introduced her to senators, bank presidents, and foreign diplomats. Every time he spoke her name, his voice carried an unmistakable tone of possession and warning.

Marisol handled it flawlessly. She remembered the etiquette she had quietly observed for three years while serving these very same people. She smiled gracefully, spoke eloquently, and never once let her nerves show.

For the first time, she truly felt she belonged.

But in the shadows of the ballroom, a toxic venom was brewing.

Paulina Robles was not on the guest list. Her father had been blacklisted. But Paulina, fueled by cheap vodka and absolute, blinding rage, had bribed a catering manager to let her through the service entrance.

She was wearing an old designer dress, her makeup slightly smeared, her eyes bloodshot. She had lost everything. Her friends had abandoned her. Her father’s company was in ruins. And now, watching Marisol—the filthy maid she used to scream at—standing in a diamond necklace, laughing with the President of the National Bank?

It shattered Paulina’s fragile mind.

"Diego!"

The shrill, hysterical scream cut through the elegant chatter of the ballroom like a chainsaw.

The music ground to a halt. Guests parted like the Red Sea, gasping in shock as Paulina stumbled out of the shadows, pointing a shaking finger directly at Marisol.

Diego instantly stepped in front of Marisol, shielding her with his body. The cold, lethal fury that radiated from him caused the guests nearest to him to physically take a step back.

"How did you get in here?" Diego demanded, his voice a low, dangerous rumble. He snapped his fingers, signaling his private security team, who instantly began moving through the crowd.

"Don't touch me!" Paulina shrieked, batting away a waiter who tried to steady her. She pointed frantically at Marisol, turning to the crowd of elite guests.

"Look at her!" Paulina screamed, tears of manic laughter streaming down her face. "You’re all bowing down to a rat! Do you know who she is? She’s not an heiress! She’s the maid! She used to scrub the toilets in my house! She’s a cheap, gold-digging whore who got knocked up and trapped him!"

The ballroom erupted into deafening gasps and frantic whispers. Phones were instantly pulled out, recording the scandal of the decade.

Diego saw red. The veins in his neck bulged. He was going to kill her. He was literally going to strangle Paulina Robles to death on the marble floor of the National Palace. He took a lethal step forward, his fists clenched so tightly his knuckles cracked.

But before Diego could destroy Paulina, a gentle hand grabbed his forearm.

Diego froze, turning his head.

Marisol stepped out from behind him.

She wasn't trembling. She wasn't crying. The scared, submissive maid who had cowered in the foyer just days ago was gone. In her place stood a woman who knew her worth, a mother who had survived hell, and a queen ready to defend her throne.

"Let me handle this," Marisol whispered to Diego, her eyes burning with a calm, terrifying fire.

Diego hesitated, his protective instinct screaming, but the look in Marisol's eyes stopped him. He stepped back, giving her the floor.
