Chapter 11 - The Queen AscendsMarisol walked slowly toward Paulina. The heavy midnight-blue velvet of her dress swept across the marble floor. The entire ballroom held its breath. The silence was absolute.

Paulina sneered, puffing out her chest, trying to maintain her aristocratic superiority even while completely unhinged. "What? Are you going to bring me a towel, Marisol? Did you miss a spot on the floor?"
Marisol stopped a few feet away. She didn't yell. She didn't raise her voice. She simply looked at Paulina with an expression of profound, crushing pity.
"You're right, Paulina," Marisol said, her voice clear, calm, and projecting perfectly across the silent room.
The guests gasped again.
"I was a maid," Marisol continued, holding her head high. "I scrubbed floors. I did laundry. I woke up at four in the morning to make sure everything was perfect. I worked honest, back-breaking hours to provide for my daughter because I had to survive in a world that hands everything to people like you and nothing to people like me."
Paulina scoffed, crossing her arms. "Save the sob story for the tabloids, you pathetic—"
"I'm not finished," Marisol’s voice sliced through Paulina’s insult with the sharpness of a guillotine.
Marisol took one step closer. The pity in her eyes vanished, replaced by an icy, untouchable authority.
"I know the value of hard work. I know what it means to build something from the ground up. But what do you know, Paulina? You were born with a silver spoon in your mouth, and you squandered it. You have no skills, no talent, and no heart. The only thing you ever had was a last name, and you used it as a weapon to abuse people you thought were beneath you."
Paulina’s face flushed a deep, ugly red. She opened her mouth to scream, but Marisol didn't let her breathe.
"You call me a gold digger?" Marisol let out a soft, elegant laugh that sent shivers down the spines of the watching executives. "Your father bankrupted his own company to finance your lavish lifestyle. You tried to marry Diego to save yourself. You didn't love him. You loved his bank account. And the moment he realized how empty you truly are, he threw you out like the trash you treated me as."
"You bitch!" Paulina shrieked, lunging forward, raising her hand to strike Marisol across the face.
The crowd screamed. Diego surged forward.
But Marisol didn't flinch. She didn't step back.
Quicker than a snake strike, Marisol’s hand shot out. She caught Paulina’s wrist mid-air, her grip like a vice. Years of scrubbing floors and carrying heavy laundry bins had given Marisol physical strength that Paulina, who had never lifted anything heavier than a champagne flute, could never comprehend.
Marisol slowly twisted Paulina’s arm down, forcing the former heiress to bend slightly in pain.
"I am not your maid anymore, Paulina," Marisol whispered, her voice dropping to a dangerous, intimate tone that only Paulina and Diego could hear. "I am Marisol Villaseñor. And if you ever raise your hand to me again, I won't need my husband’s lawyers to destroy you. I will do it myself."
Marisol shoved Paulina’s arm away with disgust. Paulina stumbled backward, tripping over her own high heels, and crashed unceremoniously onto her backside on the polished marble floor.
The ballroom erupted. Not in outrage, but in a scattered, hesitant applause that quickly grew into a roaring standing ovation. The elites, who respected power above all else, had just witnessed an absolute masterclass in dominance. The maid hadn't just survived the viper; she had cut its head off.
Security finally closed in, grabbing the sobbing, hysterical Paulina by her arms and dragging her out the service doors, her screams fading into the night.
Marisol took a deep, shaky breath, the adrenaline slowly leaving her system.
Suddenly, a warm, heavy suit jacket was draped over her shoulders. Diego wrapped his arms around her from behind, burying his face in the crook of her neck, right in front of the flashing cameras of the society photographers.
"Remind me never to make you angry," Diego murmured, his voice thick with absolute awe and overwhelming pride.
Marisol leaned back against his chest, a genuine, radiant smile breaking across her face. "I think you're safe, mi amor."
Diego turned her around in his arms, ignoring the hundreds of spectators. He looked at the woman who had just claimed her throne, the woman who was finally, completely his.

"Let's go home," Diego whispered, kissing her forehead. "Our daughter is waiting."
