Chapter 16 - The VowsSix months later.

The private island of Isla Mujeres, surrounded by the crystal-clear turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea, had been completely rented out by Villaseñor Enterprises.
There were no press allowed. No paparazzi. No corporate rivals.
Only a select group of close friends, loyal staff, and the people who truly mattered.
The sun was beginning to set, painting the sky in breathtaking shades of gold, pink, and violet. A massive archway made entirely of white orchids and roses stood on the pristine white sand beach.
Diego stood at the altar, looking more handsome than he ever had in his life. He wore a perfectly tailored white tuxedo jacket with black trousers, his dark hair catching the golden hour light. His hands were clasped tightly in front of him, betraying his nervous anticipation.
Suddenly, the soft, beautiful melody of a string quartet filled the salty air.
The guests stood up.
Walking down the aisle of white flower petals was Valentina.
She wore a miniature version of a white ballgown, a crown of fresh flowers in her dark hair. She was throwing pink rose petals from a tiny basket, taking her job very seriously. When she reached Diego, he knelt down, kissed her cheek, and stood her right next to him as his best man.
Then, the music swelled.
Diego looked up, and his breath completely vanished from his lungs.
Marisol began her walk down the aisle.
She was a vision of absolute perfection. Her wedding dress was a masterpiece of delicate lace and silk that flowed behind her like a cloud. A long, sheer veil covered her face, but it couldn't hide the radiant, overwhelming joy shining in her dark eyes.
She wasn't the broken maid hiding in the laundry room anymore. She was a woman fiercely loved, fiercely protected, and entirely secure in her worth.
When she finally reached the altar, Diego gently lifted the veil.
Tears immediately filled his eyes at the sight of her beauty. He took her hands in his, his thumbs softly tracing her knuckles—knuckles that had once been bruised and calloused from scrubbing his floors, now soft and adorned with diamonds.
The priest spoke, but Diego barely heard the traditional words. He only heard the pounding of his own heart.
"Diego," Marisol whispered, her voice shaking with emotion as she spoke her vows. "Four years ago, I thought I lost you forever. I spent years in the shadows, believing I was nothing. But you found me. You didn't just give me a home; you gave me my voice back. You are my protector, my best friend, and the greatest father our daughter could ever ask for. I promise to love you, in the light and in the dark, for the rest of my days."
A few guests dabbed their eyes. Esteban, the head butler, was openly weeping in the front row.
Diego swallowed hard, trying to keep his voice steady as he looked deep into her soul.
"Marisol... you are the strongest person I have ever known," Diego vowed, his voice thick with devotion. "When I was blind to the world, you protected our family. You endured hell just to keep our little girl safe. I don't deserve you. But I swear on my life, I will spend every second of every day proving to you that you are my queen. I will build an empire for you, and I will burn it all down if it means keeping you safe. You are my heart. You are my soul. You are my everything."
"Do you take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife?" the priest asked, smiling warmly.
Diego didn't look away from her eyes. "I do."
"And do you take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband?"
Marisol squeezed his hands, tears of pure joy spilling down her cheeks. "I do. Forever."
"By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss your bride."
Diego didn't hesitate. He pulled Marisol into his arms, dipping her slightly, and kissed her with all the passion, relief, and triumphant love he possessed.
The crowd erupted into cheers. Valentina jumped up and down, clapping her tiny hands.
As they broke the kiss, Diego rested his forehead against hers, both of them laughing breathlessly against each other’s lips.
They had survived the lies. They had defeated the vipers. They had reclaimed their future.
