Chapter 9 - The DebutThe internet was practically on fire.

The sudden, brutal cancellation of the Villaseñor-Robles merger had sent shockwaves through the financial world. Stock markets trembled. Rumors circulated wildly. Tabloids speculated that Diego Villaseñor had suffered a mental breakdown, while others claimed Paulina Robles had been caught in a scandalous affair.
Alejandro Robles had tried to leak a story to the press, but within seconds, Diego’s legal team had threatened him with total annihilation. The Robles family was effectively gagged.
But silence only breeds more curiosity. The elite of Mexico City were starving for answers.
They would get them at the annual Luz y Esperanza Charity Gala.
It was the most exclusive social event of the year, hosted at the National Palace. The guest list was a who's who of politicians, tycoons, and celebrities. And Diego Villaseñor, normally reclusive, had just confirmed his attendance.
In the master suite, Marisol was staring at her reflection in absolute disbelief.
Claudia, the stylist, had outdone herself. Marisol was wearing a custom-designed, off-the-shoulder gown made of midnight-blue velvet. It clung perfectly to her curves, pooling like liquid ink around her heels. A staggering diamond necklace—a Villaseñor family heirloom that Diego had personally retrieved from the bank vault—rested against her collarbone. Her dark hair was swept up into an elegant chignon, leaving a few soft tendrils framing her face.
She didn't look like a maid. She looked like an empress.
Diego walked into the dressing room, adjusting the cuffs of his bespoke black tuxedo. When he looked up and saw Marisol, he stopped dead in his tracks.
"Breathe, Diego," Marisol teased gently, a nervous butterfly fluttering in her stomach.
Diego crossed the room in three long strides, his eyes burning with an intensity that made Marisol’s knees weak. He didn't care about ruining her makeup; he gently cupped her face and kissed her deeply, reverently.
"I pity every man in that ballroom tonight," Diego murmured against her lips. "Because they have to look at you and know you belong to me."
"Are you sure about this?" Marisol asked, her nerves spiking as the reality of the night set in. "They are going to stare. They are going to judge."
"Let them stare," Diego said, his voice hardening with that familiar, ruthless edge. "Tonight, I show the world who my queen is. Anyone who disrespects you will answer to me."
Forty minutes later, a fleet of black armored SUVs pulled up to the red carpet outside the National Palace.
The flashbulbs were a blinding, chaotic storm. Reporters screamed Diego’s name, desperate for a quote about the broken engagement. The crowd surged forward against the velvet ropes.
The driver opened the door. Diego stepped out first.
The crowd went wild. The billionaire looked utterly lethal in his tuxedo, his expression a mask of cold indifference. But instead of walking down the carpet, he turned around and offered his hand toward the dark interior of the car.
The reporters hushed, their cameras clicking furiously. Was it a new heiress? A supermodel?
A delicate hand wearing a massive emerald-cut diamond took Diego’s.
Marisol stepped out into the flashing lights.
A collective gasp echoed down the red carpet. No one recognized her. She wasn't from their elite circles. She wasn't an actress. But the sheer, breathtaking elegance she radiated instantly silenced the paparazzi.
Diego wrapped his arm securely around Marisol’s waist, pulling her close to his side. He glared at the cameras, challenging anyone to say a word.
"Señor Villaseñor!" a daring reporter yelled. "Who is this woman? What happened to Paulina Robles?"
Diego stopped right in the middle of the red carpet. He looked directly into the lens of the nearest television camera.

"Paulina Robles is ancient history," Diego’s voice boomed, deep and terrifyingly clear. "Allow me to introduce my fiancée, Marisol Villaseñor. The future lady of my empire."
He didn't wait for the screaming reaction. He simply guided Marisol up the stairs, leaving the media in a state of absolute, explosive chaos.
