Chapter 14 - ELEANOR
Daniel stood between Eleanor and Amelia.
“You're alive.”
Eleanor smiled.
“Obviously.”
“Why did you disappear?”
“Because your father wanted me dead.”
Daniel shook his head.
“That doesn't make sense.”
“It will.”
Eleanor walked slowly around the room.
“Your father discovered what I was doing.”
“What were you doing?”
“Building an empire.”
“You stole from him.”
“I protected what belonged to me.”
Daniel's voice hardened.
“You manipulated Victoria.”
“Yes.”
“Marcus?”
“Yes.”
“Richard?”
“Yes.”
Daniel stared at her.
“And my mother?”
Eleanor's expression became colder.
“She was inconvenient.”
Daniel's blood ran cold.
“You killed her.”
“No.”
“You ordered her death.”
“I ordered a warning.”
“And she died.”
Eleanor shrugged.
“Accidents happen.”
Daniel nearly lunged at her.
Security rushed in.
Eleanor smiled.
“You still don't understand.”
“Understand what?”
“Your father left everything to me.”
Daniel froze.
“He didn't.”
“He did.”
Eleanor pulled out a document.
“Your father's original will.”
Daniel looked at it.
The signature appeared genuine.
But something felt wrong.
Then Amelia woke.
She looked at Eleanor.
Her eyes widened.
“You.”
Eleanor smiled.
“You remember.”
Amelia's voice trembled.
“You were there.”
Daniel turned.
“Where?”
“The night my mother died.”
Eleanor's smile disappeared.
Amelia continued.
“You were standing beside the road.”
Eleanor stared at her.
“You were only nineteen.”
“I remember your car.”
Silence filled the room.
Eleanor slowly stepped backward.
Daniel understood.
Amelia had witnessed the beginning of everything.
The hospital doors suddenly opened.
Police officers entered.
Eleanor turned toward them.
One officer said:
“Eleanor Carter, you're under arrest.”
Eleanor smiled.
“You think this ends with me?”
Daniel looked at her.
“No.”
