Chapter 19 - THE FINAL LETTER

One year later, Daniel and Amelia returned to the villa.

The foyer looked different.

The marble had been polished.

The staircase had been renovated.

The old security camera was gone.

A new system had been installed.

Ethan, now a curious toddler, ran across the floor.

Amelia laughed.

“Slow down.”

Daniel caught him.

Ethan giggled.

For a moment, everything felt peaceful.

Then a letter arrived.

Daniel opened it.

It came from Victoria.

She had been released on bail while awaiting the final stage of sentencing.

The letter contained only one page.

I know I don't deserve forgiveness.

But I need you to know something.

Eleanor didn't tell me everything.

There was another person involved.

Daniel stopped reading.

Amelia looked at him.

“What?”

He handed her the letter.

Her face tightened.

“There was someone else?”

Daniel nodded.

The letter continued.

Someone who helped Eleanor disappear years ago.

Someone who still has access to the Carter family accounts.

Someone you have never suspected.

There was no name.

Only a final sentence.

Look at the original security footage from the night your father died.

Daniel immediately turned toward the security room.

They accessed the archived footage.

The screen showed the old house.

Daniel's father entered the study.

Then Eleanor.

Then Richard.

Then another person.

Daniel leaned closer.

His face went pale.

Amelia whispered:

“Who is that?”

Daniel didn't answer.

The figure turned toward the camera.

It was someone Daniel recognized.

Someone who had been helping the police.

Someone who had claimed to be on their side.

The screen went black.

Daniel stood motionless.

Amelia grabbed his hand.

“Daniel?”

He looked at her.

“We're not finished.”

For a moment, fear returned.

Then Daniel looked at his wife and son.

He wasn't the man he had been a year earlier.

He wasn't willing to run anymore.

He wasn't willing to trust blindly.

And he wasn't going to let anyone threaten his family again.

He picked up the phone.

“Call the investigator.”

Amelia nodded.

May you like

The fight had changed.

But it wasn't over.
